Tantra in Bengal

Bengal became one of the important regions for the development of Tantric traditions, particularly those associated with Shakti — the divine feminine power.
What Was Characteristic of Bengal Tantra?
Traditions centered on the worship of the Goddess in different forms, including Kali and Tara, became especially significant. Some schools used mantra, ritual, meditation, and symbolism associated with cremation grounds and with transcending conventional ideas of purity and impurity.
Bengal also became an important region of interaction between Hindu and Buddhist Tantric traditions. Certain images, concepts, and practices moved between religious contexts and acquired new meanings.
Why Is Bengal Important?
In Bengal, Tantra became deeply intertwined with local religious culture and had a particularly strong influence on the development of Shakta traditions.
At the same time, Bengal Tantra was not a single unified school. Different lineages, texts, and forms of practice existed throughout the region.
Bengal demonstrates how Tantra changed in response to local culture and religious environments.
